Digital Literacy: The truth of the matter.

Digital Literacy has been championed for enhancement on the competency based curriculum. I had an opportunity to visit four classroom all with diverse experience. The awareness level is there already. It is the immersion and deepening that is varied. I had a whole class instruction using a projector, a whole class instruction using a mobile phone because the network failed, a non technology class because they were not informed enough to “plan” and a well organised lesson on tablets one per child despite the power being off. This description demonstrates the diversity of practice which could be linked to preparedness passion and support. Teachers are at different levels of Digital literacy enhancement. Most are still on showcase stage where they have to plan and demonstrate what is possible. A couple are in the immersion stage with low quality integration tending to routine. Very few are at routine level which is ” this is how we do it all the lesson”. It’s critical to determine “Why so?” ” How to we move from one extreme to another” ” What is the percentage distribution of teacher at each of these level”. DLP is a huge investment, the Return on Investment is low. It’s important to reinvest in the study so as to understand on how best we can move the needle.
